Welsh rugby star Gareth Thomas will be putting young fans through their paces, as The Gareth Thomas Academy in association with Rugby Matters kicks off with a new weekly format on Saturday 12th April at Pontyclun RFC.

The Cardiff Blues centre and Wales most capped player of all time is going back to basics to offer keen youngsters expert coaching as part of the Gareth Thomas Academy, sponsored by Meriva and Zafira, clever family cars from Vauxhall Motors.
The aim of the training sessions, which run from 10am – 12pm is to offer top level coaching to boys and girls aged between six and 16 on a regular basis. The Gareth Thomas Academy caters for all players, from complete novices to talented players.
Vauxhall has sponsored Rugby Matters and The Gareth Thomas Academy for two years running, providing children with the opportunity to play rugby in a safe, professional environment. Here they can develop a range of skills, and stay active during the school holidays.
Gareth Thomas comments, “The objective of my Academy has always been to provide top-level rugby training sessions to encourage fresh young players who could well become the future stars of the game.
“The Gareth Thomas Academy is about promoting interest in the game and developing rugby skills in an enjoyable and stimulating environment. It is great to have Vauxhall Motors on board again this year to help us make these worthwhile training sessions feasible.”
Training session run weekly, costing £7.50/hr for a 10 week term and includes the opportunity to meet and train with Gareth Thomas and his international team mates, as well as a free t-shirt for everyone who signs up. At the end of each term Gareth Thomas will present an award to the player who has shown the most progress throughout the course.
